Spirit Week Showdown!

May 13 – 17

Think your school has the MOST spirit?

Take on a friendly challenge with other schools in Western New York and make a difference for cancer patients everywhere by registering for the Schools Against Cancer Spirit Week Showdown!

Hosting a spirit week is the perfect opportunity for everyone at your school to get involved in the mission to end cancer and have fun while doing it.

Whether you’re wearing a cancer color for awareness or fundraising for the cause, your students will support Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, fuel cancer research and stand in solidarity with everyone affected by cancer.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Spirit Week Showdown

Who:

Your school vs. all other WNY schools!

When:

May 13 – 17, 2024

It’s time to challenge your students and staff to become the Spirit Week Showdown champions! Keep an eye on the leaderboard at the bottom of this page to see how your school ranks against other schools in Western New York.

The school with the most spirit will be rewarded with a customized mini blue buffalo statue to proudly display on your campus! The top fundraising school will also receive a mini blue buffalo of their own.

Is your school ready to take on Spirit Week? Day one starts Monday, May 13! If an entire week isn’t best for your school, we encourage you to register for Friday, May 17, and participate in Colors for Cancer day!

What:

Get ready for a week of fun with these themed Spirit Days

Monday – Caps for a Cure

Wear your favorite baseball cap or fun hat to stand in solidarity with cancer patients! Donations made during Spirit Week not only advance critical cancer research but also fund quality-of-life programs that help patients undergoing cancer treatment. Free wigs and head coverings through the Elevate Salon are just two examples!

Tuesday – Team Up Against Cancer

Wear your favorite jersey, whether it’s for your school or your favorite pro-level team. We’re all on the same team fighting for cures!

Wednesday – Wacky Wednesday

This is your day to have fun! Deck yourself out in mismatched socks or crazy colors or wear two different shoes. More wacky outfits means more support for the cancer cause and Roswell Park.

Thursday – Comfy for the Cause

Mark this down as a day of comfort and reflection. Administration of chemotherapy can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 10 hours depending on the treatment, so patients usually prefer to dress comfortably. Express your solidarity by wearing your comfortable pajamas and keeping patients in your thoughts while you’re in class.

Friday – Colors for Cancer

Dress in a cancer awareness color that holds meaning for you.

Why?

Getting your school involved in a fundraiser like the Spirit Week Showdown teaches students the importance of giving back and instills in them important values like empathy and compassion. Students can also fuel cutting-edge cancer research and patient care programs in addition to raising awareness.

Encourage everyone who participates in the Spirit Week Showdown to secure at least one donation for the cause. For every dollar your school raises, Roswell Park can leverage an additional $23 from external grants toward the groundbreaking research that happens daily. A donation as small as $5 can have a significant impact!
