Team Roswell: Spring 2024 Top Fundraisers

2024 started strong for Team Roswell, and nine event coordinators came together to raise critical funds for cancer research and patient care programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Their efforts are funding innovative brain cancer vaccines like SurVaxM, propelling new studies on kidney cancer, supporting the youngest cancer warriors and so much more.

100 Holes of Golf at Wanakah Country Club

Wanakah 100 Holes of Golf Golfers

On June 20, 29 golfers and three relay teams played 100 holes of golf, walking every step of the way, and in doing so raising critical funds for the Courage of Carly Fund at Roswell Park and Live Like Luca. The event, now in its ninth year, gives children with cancer and rare blood disorders the fighting chance they deserve. Golfers raised an astonishing $233,000 and counting for the cause. Buffalo Goes Gray Mission Possible Gala

Buffalo Goes Gray Committee Members

You may have heard about Buffalo Goes Gray in the news. This May, the organization came together to host their sixth annual gala featuring a live band, auction and more at the Powerhouse in Buffalo. The event raised an incredible $30,000 for brain cancer research, fueling breakthroughs like SurVaxM, an innovative brain cancer vaccine recently granted fast track designation by the FDA.

Buffalo Goes Gray was founded in 2008 by Alyson Walter, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent a craniotomy and one additional brain surgery. Since then, she’s made it her mission to give back to others facing a brain cancer diagnosis. To date, the organization has raised more than $150,000 for Roswell Park.

Vullo Boys Walk for a Cure

The Vullo Boys Walk for a Cure hit a significant milestone this year, surpassing an incredible $100,000 raised for Roswell Park since the event’s inception six years ago. What started as a way for a mother to teach her two sons about giving back has evolved into a community-wide fundraiser with a major impact on the future of cancer care.

Beth Vullo and her two sons, Preston and Charlie, continually take the event to the next level with bake sales, basket raffles, bounce houses, food trucks and more, all to support Courage of Carly Fund. This year, the Vullo’s efforts raised $24,070.

Shane “Shine” Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament

This year marked the inaugural Shane “Shine” Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by Michele Nelson and her dedicated team. The event, hosted at Wanoa Golf Club, honors the life of Shane “Shine” Nelson, who true to his nickname, was a fun-loving and happy person who shined in the hearts of all who knew him. He passed away from kidney cancer, and funds raised from the golf tournament fuel kidney cancer research at Roswell Park in the hopes of finding a cure and saving more lives.

Together, the golfers raised an impressive $6,271 for the cause.

In May, Sherry Nichols Charlesworth and team hosted the ninth annual car and craft show at Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds to help Roswell Park’s most pressing needs. The event brought together hundreds of people for an incredible day filled with custom and collectible cars, vendors, music, food and more to support the mission to end cancer and honor the lives of Jerry and Liz Titus. Together, they raised $5,249!
